Report: Michael Jackson dead at age 50

The King of Pop is dead.

The Los Angeles coroner Fred Corral has confirmed that Michael Jackson has died at the age of 50. According to Reuters, he said that Jackson was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital in full cardiac arrest and that an autopsy would likely take place on Friday.

TMZ reports that Jackson's sister, LaToya, "ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead."

The Los Angeles Times reports that Jackson is in a coma dead, citing law enforcement sources.

"Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times,” the newspaper reported on its website.

TMZ reports that the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has passed away at the age of 50.

For those of you on Twitter, a colleague just pointed out that "Micheal" Jackson -- note the spelling -- is trending.

UPDATED, 5:29 P.M.

TMZ has posted a photo of paramedics unloading a stretcher from an ambulance, which one would assume is carrying Jackson.

According to a June 19 post on Reuters' Fan Fare blog, Jackson had been training for his upcoming series of concerts with former Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ reports that singer Michael Jackson has been rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Paramedics arrived after a 911-call and were reportedly seen performing CPR on the 50-year-old singer. As well, one of Jackson's family members has told the site that Jackson is in "really bad shape."

According to the Los Angeles Times, Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home.

E! Online reports that Jackson has been taken to the UCLA Medical Center. They also spoke to Jackson's father, Joe, who said: "His mother is on her way to the hospital now to check in on him...I am not sure what's wrong. I am waiting to hear back from them."

We'll post more information as it becomes available.

What this means for Jackson's eagerly anticipated summer concert series is unknown: Jackson had signed on to perform 50 concerts this summer at London, England's O2 Arena. The King of Pop is supposed to take the stage for the first performance on July 13. The concert series is dubbed This Is It.
